Was Xander the big hero because he brought Buffy back?

No, he wasn't.
But maybe he should have been.

Yes, but that was when she was bad. ;D
I think it was in End of days when buffy finally thanked xander, or rather aknowledged that xander is the one that is always bringing buffy back, or something.
In a related topic, when did xanders crush on buffy end? I beleive he still had feelings towards her in Killed by death, and it was brought up in The Replacement, but he must have seen her as just a friend by that point.

His crush was still mentioned in "Hells Bells" in a way as well. I don't think Xander ever truly got over Buffy. I think he just realized that Buffy would never be into him that way.
Here is a related topic: who liked Buffy's dress in this episode?

I like how buffy wore the dress even though she was going to die, like this would be the last thing she ever wares, she should go out looking nice. Though maybe she shouldn't have stopped to change her clothes when her friends are in danger.

"In a related topic, when did xanders crush on buffy end? He loved Cordelia, i truly believe that. But after the stupidity with Willow (don't get me wrong, Willow was my favorite girl on the show) and he "got over" Cordy he fell back to the buffstar. I believe that if Buffy ever came to Xander and asked him to be more than just friends and he believed she was not under a spell (like when he cast that love-spell to get Cordy back) he would take her up on it. The thing with Anya was just to settle. Most people need to get there freak on from time to time, and who is wilder then an x-daemon

You really beleive xander loved cordelia? It seemed like their hatred for each other turned into lust, nothing more. Xander never loved cordy, not even when he was willing to put a spell on her in BB&B - if anything, if he truly loved her, he would never have done something like that to her. No, xander was just randy and lonely.
And I cannot beleive xander 'settled' for anya. They really worked at that relationship, he put up with all her crazyness and still wanted to be with her. What about that speech he gave in 'into the woods'? Or the fact that they were going to get married? (even if xander wasn't really ready for marraige yet.) Even after breaking up they still had sex a few times. If anya wasn't killed, she and xander would have got back together for sure.

The thing with Willow was lust, they were never more then close friends. I can't comment on the actor of Xander's looks but Alyson was/is a fine female so the lust would be hard for a teen to ignore when they were friends already. The thing with Cordy started as lust but it became more. I don't think that they would have been together for so long if it had not been more. Cordelia had to leave her friends to be with Xander, and it couldn't be easy for Xander to bring the hated Cordelia in to the gang. I thing Willow saw them making out but Xander could have dumpt Quinn C. after that. I think that would have been easy if he had not loved her. So he must have loved her. And he would not be so stupid as to try to use magic to get her back if it was just a fling. It's all out of memory as i don't have the DVD's so if there is something that is totally off please tell me

Xander wasn't interested in Willow until she was seriously dating Oz. He got too used to her being in love with him all the time.
I don't think he truly loved Cordy. I do think Cordy loved him.
It was hard for Xander to love any other woman, because he still held onto the idea that Buffy would love him.

Why did Buffy have the strength to fight the Master when she was on the rooftop, but couldn't shake him when she was in his lair? Was he more powerful there?

When she first met the master she wasn't at her best, she was convinced she was going to die and not come back. But after being brought back she was angry.
So angry that loosing a lot of blood didn't seem to stop her.

I think Xander got over Buffy when he truly and completely fell in love with Anya. Maybe the episode where Riley left and Xander gave Buffy the speech about going after him and then went home himself and told Anya how much he loved her was when he truly was over Buffy. I'm not saying he isn't still attracted to her or even that he might have no romantic feelings about her. But he is over her because she is, at best, second choice once he falls for Anya.

Hi gloryboy, long time no see! Thanks for replying to a post I made 9 months ago! I don't think that episode was the exact moment that he fell out of love with buffy. If anything, prophecy girl was the episode - when she told him she thought of him as a friend she shattered all his hopes and dreams then and there. He still harboured a little lust for her, but not enough to act on it in b,b&b. By that point they were truly friends, whereas in s1 xander was only being friendly to get buffy to like him; he had fallen for her since they first met and had been waiting for the right moment to declare his feelings. Xander didn't fall for anya until some time in s4, and by that point his crush on buffy was long over.

i would say it went half and half. cuz even tho, buffy is the 1 who actually killed the master, if xander had not brought er back, she would not have been able to kill the master and wat happened in the wish would have partly came true...
