Sarah Michelle Gellar is to play a grown-up version of Alice from Lewis Carroll's novel Alice in Wonderland. Gellar's character is a disturbed young woman who was sent to a mental hospital after her parents were killed in a fire that destroyed her home.
The movie sees Alice returning to Wonderland, which is now a threatening place of mysterious potions and talking animals. As the story unfolds, Alice is forced to confront her own fears and the evil Queen of Hearts before she can return to a normal life.
Alice is based on the Electronic Arts video game American McGee's Alice.
