I think angelus must be exactly as intelligent as angel, I meant they are the same person, only one is evil, loosing a soul doesn't make you more or less intelligent.
But then again angelus wanted to open the mouth of akathla (sp?) and suck the world into hell, and that seems like a really stupid thing to do, I mean what would he have to gain from it?

I think it would have been the ultimate destructive act for him, regardless of whether it was technically smart or not - and since he wouldn't have suffered from being in Hell (while Buffy et al would), I can see him getting off on that.

Because Angel had no humanity/goodness in him (as was pointed out in Innocence when the Judge couldn't burn him). Giles specified in Becoming 2 that all human life would undergo eternal torment.

Giles could have left out the part where demons suffer too, because well why would buffy mind that? She'd be more concerned about what happens to humans. I always figured hell would be chaos, angel wouldn't get special treatment just because he's not a human, giles has said at one point that demons hate vampires. And I always thought the judge said angelus had no goodness in terms of intentions, in other words angelus had a totally evil personallity. He is still a vampire.
