Next to Hush, this was my favorite episode of the season. Do you think that the First Slayer was trying to test Buffy? Or kill her for harnessing the power?

I never thought it was the first slayer herself (or her ghost) that was trying to kill the gang, because as a slayer she would be a good guy. I thought the dreams were simply an effect of doing such a powerful spell, perhaps of 'borrowing' the first slayers power, and they couldn't handle it. I don't think I'm explaining it right.
Anyway, I love how tara said 'be back before dawn' while buffy was in the spare room, and dawn appeared for the first time in the next episode, and the spare room became dawn's room. Notice michelle trachtenburg standing at the front of the line of xanders ice cream van too.

Restless is full of cool little bits like that. Like xander and spike talking about a shark on land, and later on in tabula rasa there was a shark demon (though the shark demon itself sucked). Or willow in school, wearing the exact same clothes as she did in the first ep. Or anya saying she will get back into vengance, and she does in s6. There are loads more I can't think of right now.

One of my favourite foreshadows in the episode comes when Buffy is talking to Joyce, who's inside the wall. If you look closely at the shape of the hole they talk through, it looks disturbingly like a body cancer cell - highly eerie when we know that Joyce is indeed in the preliminary stages of developing her brain tumour.

I know joyce was planned to be killed early in s4, but still, a hole in the shape of a cancer cell? come on!

It kind of depends. There are some supposed 'foreshadows' in this episode that really aren't what they claim, but I've read that this one was intended (although I can't remember the source off the top of my head, so it is contestable). Even if it's not strict foreshadowing, it's a nice coincidence.

This episode had loadsa cool stuff like that but i was just reading a site and it say this; The Joining Spell: In Primeval the Scooby Gang combined to fight Adam - Willow provided the Spirit, Xander the Heart, Giles the Mind and Buffy the Strength. It is these elements that the First Slayer is after from each of them. Just thought i'd share that because i never noticed it in the episode! Yeah, and in restless, xander had his heart cut out, giles had his head cut, and willow... not sure about that one...but buffy defeated the first slayer by not using strength.
