Would you like to have seen his character more? I mean, if he hadn't been sired - then would you have liked to have learnt a bit more about him or do you think that there wasn't much more to him? No for me. His character was similar to Xander's and I don't think the show would have liked to have had both of them. He played his role out and Xander got to dust his first vamp!

Oh yeh, I forgot Jesse was the first vamp Xander staked! Its a little weird how jesse is never mentioned. I mean he is supposed to be xander and willows best friend, they were a threesome since they were little kids, but after the harvest they never talk about him ever again, even when X and W are talking about their past.

True, but Giles barely mentioned Jenny after the third season. Joss is one to move on.

Gosh, I loved Oz's character. He was really a great addition to the show.

yah I don't think they should have Killed Jessie off, I would have liked to have known what would have happened if he'd stayed.
Oz was awesome, they needed a werewolf and boyband hottie in the gang.

No. Jesse was there to get Willow and Xander in to the slaying in a more or less believable way. If he had stayed on the show as a scooby member they would have had to have another friend to be vampt. I don't think that Willow and Xander would have been so into fighting the good fight if they hadn't lost a "close" friend. Jesse was a dramatic tool, nothing more. On top of that there was little difference on Xander and Jesse at that time so what would have been special about the Xandman if Jesse had stayed? It's always interesting to wonder what would have happened if this and that, but i really don't think it would have been smart to have two Xanders on the show. They could have talked about him however. It is weird that they didn't. Jenny Calender on the other hand was a character with potential You could try to write a "what if" story! See what you came up with

When I saw Welcome to the Hellmouth I was expecting Buffy to save Jesse right to the end. I think I had unrealistic expectations, right from the off the show said Buffy can't save them all. I was invested in Jesse right from the beginning, and the fact this thread exists possibly shows I was not the only one. But at the end of the day his purpose was to show Buffy is fallible which he achieved.

I keep thinking Jessie would've been the window into Xander's homo-erotic side... idk... I think Joss brought that out in season 7 with Andrew though, but wouldn't it have been awesome if Xander were the gay one and not Willow? LOL

A show about 4 or 5 straight girls, and one gay boy? No I don't think that would have worked.

Well, if Xander had been gay from the start, there would never have been that number of straight females anyway - just Buffy, Willow and Cordelia (who would have probably had less of a role anyway). Having Xander be gay would have actually helped the gender balance by providing more male characters (in the later years the male/female balance got pushed way out of hand) - and it would have fit Joss' weak-become-strong ethos better, as well as being more socially daring by avoiding the 'college experimentation' cliche.

A show about 4 or 5 straight girls, and one gay boy? No I don't think that would have worked. That's almost Will and Grace there... LOL The more I think about it the more it would've brought out other characters like Larry, Jonathan, and even Andrew... The female characters were so powerful the men were too immasculated to even contribute, so they might as well've been gay... atleast their character arch would've been more broad...

Well, 'gay' doesn't mean 'effeminate'. The bigger problem was the writers were never able to balance the male and female characters and resorted to huge anvils like those in 'Get It Done' and the Caleb arc to make their point (see also 'Beauty and the Beasts' and the Angel ep 'She'). But on numerous occasions, they had been able to show males behaving like males while still being sympathetic and empowered.

That's a good point, there was never a real balance...
*giggles* I can just imagine an episode with an ep where Xander and Larry had a drunken night or something... LOL
