Do you think it was a good idea to add a cute kid into the show?
I personally think it was a bad move. Ok sure, at first it was a surprise that they chose a little boy to become a vampire, but that setup never paid off. He never did anything scary or threatening, and there was no reason why they (the writers of the prophecy?) shouldn't have chosen an adult to become the annointed. But on the other hand, he did give the master someone to talk to. What are everyone else's thoughts?

I never particularly liked or hated the Anointed, but like you mentioned, the rationale for his being there came across as a little silly given that he had no real role to play. The cute kid angle was also a little annoying, but unlike annoying future Seasons of Buffy and Angel (with the intros of the horrific, whiny wastes that are Dawn and Connor), the writers at least had the sense to kill him off - which provided a great end to School Hard, established Spike well as a villain, and also showed a little parallel to modern-day religion (with the newer generations ignoring/challenging long-held views and deciding to do things their own way.)

I agree. I don't think they really had enough time to develop him, with just a half season. I liked Spike right away, when he killed off the Annoying One.
