November's hot topic is Phobias.
Do you have any phobias?
What do you think is/are the cause/s of phobias, eg. why are most people afraid of spiders?
How has a certain phobia affected you in your life?

I have one phobia - tornados.
I know it sounds silly because we almost never have them here in the uk, but even so I am terrified of them. It's the whole idea of being sucked in and there's nothing you can do about it. Everytime there's a really strong wind I get scared, especially when I'm on holiday at a location where tornados are known to happen.
I'm afraid of spiders too, but its not really a phobia. If I see a spider indoors I don't hesitate to catch it and throw it out. But I hate walking into cobweby rooms for fear of having a spider land on me without me noticing.

I only have 2 phobias. They are Scorpions and Heights. I grew up in Arizona and it is a desert and scorpions are native to that area. If I even think that there might be one in the area and I can't see it I will freeze up and not be able to move for a while. My fear of heights is to the point were if I'm in a plane I have a death grip on the arm rests and any turbulance that causes the plane to jerk in any way, I have a death grip on the arm rests again. I'm in a MEDEVAC unit here in Korea and there is a big chance that by the time I will leave I will have flown in a helicopter and I will be scared to death when I do.
