Imagine if Sarah MG had got the role of Cordelia... I don't think it would have been as good but it would have been different, maybe even in a good way. Apart from Sarah Michelle Gellar, who do you think would have played the role of Buffy well? Wow...that's hard because I really think this role was meant for Sarah. How about Jennifer Gardner? She's proven that she could kick a little demon butt if she needed to. What do you think it would have been like if Sarah Michelle Gellar got the part of Cordelia instead of Buffy. I think Cordy would have still be self-involved, but only blonder. (Unless they had Sarah keep the darker hair she had on All My Children.) I don't think Cordy would have been as sarcastic just because of the way Charisma delivered the role. I do think Sarah would have made the role her own, but I just have a very hard time imaging that now.

Didn't mercedes mcnab try out for buffy too?
She would have made a great buffy...but I really can't see charisma as buffy working.

if Buffy would have gotten the part of Cordelia then maybe they would have brought Eliza to play Buffy and had someone else play Faith

Wasn't Eliza like 14 when Buffy started, probably too young for a full time role?

As I understand it, faith, harmony and dawn were all just one or two years younger than the actresses who played them, but all the other 'kids' in the show (including background extras) were played by actors in their late twenties/early thirties.

Maybe they would have gotten some new actor to play Buffy. Although if they had, the series just would've been too far different than the one we know.

If Sarah had gotten the role of Cordelia, she'd have probably done it very well - reports from people say that she wasn't very popular on the set towards the end of the series (from S3 onwards, actually), so playing a bitchy character probably wouldn't have been too much of a stretch. But I'm very happy she got the Buffy role, as it gave her full run for her great acting skills and provided a solid centrepiece for the show.

Huh SMG wasn't popular on set? Do elaborate! Did she do anything in particular to annoy her co-stars?

Huh SMG wasn't popular on set? Do elaborate! Did she do anything in particular to annoy her co-stars? The general gist is that she was very nice and personable during the first season, but once the show got renewed and started getting critical success and strong ratings for the network, she apparently got very diva-ish. Jeff Pruitt and Sophia Crawford (stunt director and stunt Buffy respectively) ended up walking/being fired at the end of S3 because Sophia was getting lots of attention for her work, and SMG didn't like it going elsewhere - demanding that no-one applaud or otherwise positively acknowledge Sophia while she was performing. There's another big incident during S4, where she apparently had a screaming fit at one of the male leads (I'm guessing Marc Blucas) when he did a joke impression of her when she was re-dubbing some lines. The lead ended up asking what the heck was wrong with her, and why she had to make things so difficult for everyone (...and then Riley gets written out. Hmm....) It seems that there was much bad feeling at that point. SMG also ended up taking a job on Saturday Night Live that clashed with the Buffy schedule, so Where The Wild Things Are had to be written/altered in a way that would make up for her sudden absence (hence Buffy having a minimal role for most of the ep). SMG's behaviour during the last 2 seasons is a bit more obvious to the viewer, and the one time I'm in agreement with her actions. She's gone on record as being very unhappy with what was done to the Buffy character - and (to me) it's very obvious that she was going through the motions towards the end of the show. There's just no passion or commitment there. Also, it's been said that during the last few days of shooting, she was frequently rubbing people's faces in her forthcoming movie career and implying that she couldn't wait to be out of there. That said, all of this is rumour - although I'm inclined to believe it. Other actors who've worked with her have dubbed her a bit of an ice queen, and she openly said that she wanted her film "Simply Irresistible" to fail. Also consider that she's the only Buffy star to not have appeared in a new featurette/commentary for the box sets - there's definitely something going on there.
