I'm afraid I haven't been up to speed with the movies. I've seen bits of the first one (and wasn't impressed), and most of the second one (which I liked a bit more). Are the other two worth checking out in your opinion?

Hmm you shouldn't judge a movie based on seeing 'bits' of it.
I loved the first movie, but then that might be because I was just so happy to see new futurama after all these years. Looking back 'benders big score' suffers a little from trying too hard, putting in as many past characters as possible, and for not following on directly from 'the devils hands are idle playthings'. But if you can overlook those points I think you'd like this movie.
'The beast with a billion backs' was my favourite out of the four. It had the most epic story and the most/funniest jokes, although you do need to watch the previous film first because it follows on.
'Benders game' was, in my opinion, terrible. If I were to rank every episode of the show plus the movies, this one would come somewhere in the bottom five. The first half of the movie meanders about, then halfway through becomes a totally different story, set in a fantasy world. There are a huge number of flaws, inconsistencies, things left unexplained and characters acting out of character for the sake of a joke. You can skip this one if you want.
The last film 'into the wild greeen yonder' was ok. Not as good as the first two, but not terrible. Though it does feel more like a film and less like 4 episodes than the others do.

Wow, this thread really died.
Anyway, just to let you know there will be long awaited Brand New futurama episodes airing next thursday! Well, in america anyway. And apparently the first ep follows on from the last movie, so be sure to watch it before you watch the new episodes.

I still haven't caught up with last two movies. I liked "Beast with a Billion Backs", but wasn't so keen on the first one, and the reviews for 3 and 4 don't fill me with confidence. However, I am intrigued by the new season - I just hope they have to guts to keep the character development moving, so that we're not given yet more 'Fry pines after Leela' stuff.

Well when I said the third was terrible, I meant compared to your average futurama episode. I'd call the movie above average if comparing it to most of what's on tv.
As for the fry/leela relationship, we've been 'promised' there will be some development there.

Well, the rest of TV isn't the best reference point. I'd be more interested in if it could compare with the average quality of the series.
That's good. I just hope that if they are together in some form, the show won't fall into the sitcom trap and have them 1) constantly breaking up or 2) portray Leela as a nag while Fry just wants to be 'free'. I don't want them to end up with a Homer/Marge-style relationship.

I just watched the first 2 episodes of the new season (yep I flew to america just for that ). The first episode follows on from the last movie, and probably couldn't be fully enjoyed without having watched the movie first. Fry and leela seem to be a couple now, or are at least open about the fact they have feelings for each other, though we haven't seen them 'dating' yet. The second ep involved leela and zap being stranded together on a planet like adam and eve, and there's not much in the way of leela/fry scenes. This ep has more dirty jokes than the show used to have (my favourite being when zap is talking about rocket wax, and says "I wax my rocket every day" ). Overall I'd consider the new eps to be about average. The first ep is just a follow-on from the movie, and the second is deliberately trying to be dirty to appeal to the comedy central audience (the new channel the show is on, which also airs south park). We've been promised more emotional and thought-provoking episodes in the future, and I'm very optimistic that the show will continue to improve.

^ Cool about being in the US. Holiday, or work-related?
I'm pleased to hear your reports on the eps so far, and am pleased that there are supposedly some deeper ones in the future.

^ um... I didn't really go to the US. On some message boards I've seen, you're not allowed to talk about illegal downloading. So to get around that, saying you 'flew to america' just to watch a tv show is like a code for saying you illegally downloaded an american show as soon as it aired there. Sorry about the confusion.

Oops - my bad. I need to catch on my on net slang. In that case, I may consider taking my own trip to America with regard to the new season. ;D

Let me know what you think of the new episodes once you've seen them. I'd love to get a futurama dicussion going.

No, I haven't. But in the interests of getting a discussion going, how about doing a Futurama watch and review session? Nothing as intense/detailed as the Buffy ones (unless that's what you want to do!), but doing an ep per week/fortnight might be fun, especially since we haven't chatted about this before.
