This is a day in the mind of Xander, after Anya was killed in the last fight.
Xander was lying on his bed, thinking of Anya. Pictures of her floated in his mind. Her smile, her lips, her often blunt and thoughtless attitude. I'd give everything just to be with her again. That night, Xander dreamed that he and Anya were together again, and he was holding her in her arms. And all of a sudden, he woke up and she was gone. He looks at the picture of Anya at the Magic Box in her Charlie's Angels costume on his bedside table and smiles at her silliness.
The memory of when Andrew had told Xander of Anya's heroic last act replayed inside Xander's mind.
"That's my girl. Always doing the stupid things." (PS, I don't remember exactly what he said, sorry!)
Xander didn't hear Buffy open the basement door and call his name. When she found Xander sitting up on the bed, holding the picture of Anya, she felt bad. She too missed Anya the way she was often oblivious to many things that people tried to tell her. A tear rolled down her cheek because of the pain she felt for Xander and for herself; for losing Spike.
It was in this way that she and Xander were most connected - through the loss of a true love, who both died defending the world.
