So I just finished watching season 5 of Supernatural today where Sam made his brother, Dean, promise that if/when he dies (they were up against Lucifer/the Devil and the only way to stop him was for Sam to become Lucifer's vessel and overpower him in order to lead him to the cage in hell that he escaped from) he would go and live a normal life, and not try to save him or do anything stupid. He keeps his promise. My question is then, if you had been fighting evil for a few years but something drastic happened (good or bad), could you go back to living a normal life knowing evil exists? And do you think any of the Scoobies would have? For example, if Buffy had never come back at the start of season 3, how do you think Xander and Willow would have coped?

Hmm when it comes to the scoobies, I think they would have kept fighting. They were still fighting at the start of s3 and s6, both times after buffy had left.
And the angel gang too. Wesley was kicked out of the scooby gang, left town and was fired by the council, fired again by angel, and had his throat cut and was abandoned by his friends, and he kept fighting through it all.
The scooby gang are good people who want to 'fight the good fight', even if buffy wasn't there. Maybe years down the line they would meet other demon fighters (like robin wood), and they would ease off on fighting demons a bit, knowing they weren't fighting alone, there are other demon fighters out there too. But I think they would still help out.
As for me, I dunno. If I had already been fighting evil for a few years, I would probably carry on, I can't see what would make me want to stop. And I don't think I could go back to a normal life knowing there are people being killed by vamps/demons, and I can put a stop to it.
