Buffy's character ARC is interesting to me and I have a few questions...
Why did Buffy stay in Sunnydale? (What reasons were keeping her in this vampire filled town?)
Why did she feel the need to guard the Hellmouth?
And what made her feel as if she was the one who had to do it?
I guess I'm curious about her motivation and reasons for staying in Sunnydale. Not sure they were ever clearly stated. (Only once during the series did she runaway, but it wasn't because of all the demons in Sunnydale.)
If anyone cares to share their thoughts and/or opinions, please enlighten me.
*Only serious answers please!*

Hi, spikeluvsbuffy! Welcome to the board. Why did Buffy stay in Sunnydale? (What reasons were keeping her in this vampire filled town?)I think it's a bunch of different reasons. Her mother got a job in town, her friends live in sunnydale, she doesn't want to move home again, and she's confident enough in her slaying skillz that she doesn't think any threats in town she faces are something she can't handle. (Though she did run away from glory that one time.) I think the main reason she stays in town though is because she knows if she leaves, her friends would have to face all the vampires and demons by themselves. It's not that she thinks they can't handle themselves, just that she'd be abandoning them if she left. And that's especially true of big bads, she can't just leave town and leave her friends to fight someone powerful enough to destroy the world. Why did she feel the need to guard the Hellmouth? That's where the greatest number of demons and vampires can be found ( the hellmouth gives off evil energy, or something, I'm not sure). If she's gonna be a slayer, there's not much point being a slayer in some vampire-free town while sunnydale is being overrun. And what made her feel as if she was the one who had to do it?Well she was the only one with superpowers. There were some vampires and demons in town that were so weak anyone could fight them, but there were also some so strong only buffy could fight them. And besides, she's too much of a good person to just 'quit' and allow her friends to do all the demon-fighting for her, putting themselves in danger when she knows she can help them. Personally I think it's a bit ridiculous that buffy continued to beleive she was the only one who can fight demons after willow became so powerful she could just turn them into frogs if she wanted. But I think after so many years of slaying it has become a part of her, she doesn't want to abandon her friends (especially after the traumatic events of the 'dead mans party' episode), even if her friends are capable and powerful too.
